November is an in-between month in much of the northern hemisphere. The long evenings have gone, the holiday lights aren’t up yet, and many beach towns have closed for the winter. Elsewhere the same weeks are among the best of the year: the heat breaks in the desert, the monsoon ends in parts of Asia, and south of the equator it’s late spring.
These are twelve places where November makes a real difference: the heat breaks, the rain stops, the leaves turn, the holidays begin or spring arrives. Each comes with a catch, because no month is perfect anywhere. The fare is a separate question, and we come to it at the end.

Seville
Best for: a three- or four-day city break.
Seville is hard work in summer, when the heat decides the shape of every day. By November it has eased. At the city’s airport weather station, the average high falls from 26°C in October to 20°C in November, according to Spain’s weather agency, AEMET (opens in a new tab). That is walking weather for the Alcázar, the Santa Cruz quarter and the Plaza de España, and the spring and early-autumn crowds have gone.
Plan it as a trip for museums, tapas and flamenco rather than long evenings outside. Nights are cool, with an average low of 10°C.
The catch: November is Seville’s second-wettest month after December, with 91 mm of rain on about six days. Keep an indoor plan, or a long lunch, ready for a wet afternoon.

Gran Canaria
Best for: a week of reliable sun.
If what you want from November is sunlight, the Canary Islands are hard to beat. They sit off the coast of Africa, about four hours’ flight from much of Europe, and at Gran Canaria’s airport, on the east coast, AEMET’s November averages (opens in a new tab) are a high of 24°C, a low of 18°C and 22 mm of rain on about four days.
It doesn’t have to be a resort week. With a car you can go from the dunes at Maspalomas to the mountain villages around Roque Nublo and on to Las Palmas, a real city with its own beach, in a day.
The catch: the island has its own microclimates. The north around Las Palmas is often cloudier than the south, and the mountains are cooler than both, so a sunny morning on the beach tells you little about the weather at the top.

Cyprus
Best for: the last warm swims in the Mediterranean, with ruins between them.
Cyprus is about as far south and east as the Mediterranean goes, and it holds on to summer longer. At Paphos airport, November averages a high of 23°C and 58 mm of rain; Malta, a common alternative, gets 21°C and 91 mm. The sea keeps its heat longer than the air, so a swim is still realistic, especially early in the month.
Paphos is the easiest base. Its mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the painted churches of the Troodos mountains, another one, are a day trip away.
The catch: Cyprus is winding down. The east-coast resorts such as Ayia Napa are quieter and partly closed for the winter, and the first autumn storms arrive. Paphos and Limassol are towns first and resorts second, so they stay open.

Cairo and Luxor
Best for: the pyramids and the Nile Valley without the heat.
In summer, Egypt makes you plan around the sun. In November the average high is about 25°C in Cairo and 29°C in Luxor, and it hardly rains. You can spend real time at Giza, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings instead of hurrying between patches of shade.
Cairo also has something new to see. The Grand Egyptian Museum, near the Giza pyramids, officially opened on 1 November 2025 (opens in a new tab), and it shows the whole Tutankhamun collection together for the first time since the tomb was found.
A week works: two or three days in Cairo, then a flight or the overnight train to Luxor.
The catch: everyone else knows November is good too. It’s the start of Egypt’s busy season, so book hotels and Nile cruises early. Start your days early as well: the sun sets around 5 p.m., and nights in Luxor cool to about 13°C.

Oman
Best for: mountains, desert and coast in one road trip.
For much of the year, the heat limits what you can do outdoors in Oman. By November, Muscat’s average high has dropped to about 30°C, from 35°C in October, and the Hajar Mountains inland are cooler still. Hiking, wadi swims and a night in the desert all fit into the same week.
Don’t stay in Muscat. A week is enough to add Nizwa, the mountains of Jebel Akhdar or Jebel Shams, a wadi such as Wadi Shab, and a night in the Wahiba Sands.
The catch: you need a car, and for the mountains the right one. The road up to Jebel Akhdar has a police checkpoint that only lets four-wheel-drive vehicles through. And this is the start of the high season, not a quiet month, so hotel prices climb from here.

Goa
Best for: the first beach weeks after the monsoon.
Goa’s beach season gets going in November. The monsoon has ended: Panaji, the state capital, averages 156 mm of rain in October and 21 mm in November. The beach shacks, which Goa licenses for the season from September to May, are mostly back by now, and the sea has calmed down.
Goa is more than its northern party beaches. The churches of Old Goa are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Panaji’s old Fontainhas quarter is worth a slow afternoon, and the beaches in the south are quieter.
The catch: it’s hot and humid, with an average high of 34°C and nights around 23°C. And the season builds towards Christmas and New Year, its busiest weeks, so hotel prices rise through the month.

Chiang Mai
Best for: northern Thailand as the rains end, and its festival of lights.
November is when northern Thailand dries out. Chiang Mai averages 41 mm of rain on about three days, highs of 31°C and nights around 20°C. The smoky months, when fires in the hills leave a haze over the north, are still ahead: they are usually worst around March.
The month also brings the city’s biggest festival. Yi Peng, when Chiang Mai releases paper lanterns into the sky, coincides with Loy Krathong, when people across Thailand float small candlelit rafts on rivers and ponds. Both fall on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, which in 2026 is Tuesday 24 November, and Chiang Mai is planning its Yi Peng celebrations for 23 to 25 November. Give yourself time outside the old city, too. Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain, is an easy day trip, and noticeably cooler at the top.
The catch: lanterns and aircraft don’t mix. In 2025, Chiang Mai airport ended all flights by 7 p.m. (opens in a new tab) on the two main festival nights, and 161 flights were cancelled or rescheduled. If you’re flying in around the festival, check your flight time again before you travel, and book your room early.

Phuket and Krabi
Best for: beaches and islands as the monsoon ends.
On Thailand’s Andaman coast, the west side of the south, November is when the beach season comes back. The monsoon eases, the sea calms and the rain drops quickly: Phuket averages 320 mm in October, 177 mm in November and 72 mm in December, according to the Thai Meteorological Department. Highs stay around 32°C throughout.
It’s also quieter than the peak from December to February. Base yourself in Phuket or Krabi and use the calmer water for boat trips to Phang Nga Bay and the Phi Phi islands. Chiang Mai is about two hours away by plane, so the lantern festival and a beach week fit into one trip.
The catch: November is a turning month, not a dry one. Phuket still gets rain on about 15 days, so the later in the month you go, the better your odds. And stay on this coast: across the peninsula, on the Gulf of Thailand, November is Koh Samui’s wettest month.

Tokyo
Best for: autumn colour in a city big enough for a week.
Tokyo’s leaves usually peak from mid-November to early December, according to the city’s official tourism site (opens in a new tab), while the mountains of Mt. Takao and Okutama turn earlier, from late October to mid-November. So whichever half of the month you go, something is turning: the hills first, then the city’s gardens and the ginkgo avenue at Meiji Jingu Gaien.
The weather suits walking: an average of 17°C by day and 9°C at night. Spend most of the week in the city, then use a clear morning for Mt. Takao or Okutama.
The catch: the foliage is no secret. The famous gardens and Mt. Takao get very busy at weekends, so go on a weekday morning. The days are short, too: by late November the sun sets around 4:30 p.m.

New York
Best for: a city break as the holiday season starts.
New York is the coldest place on this list, and in November that’s part of the appeal. The average high in Central Park falls to 12°C, from 18°C in October, with lows around 6°C. The city’s autumn also comes late: Central Park’s trees usually peak in early November (opens in a new tab), later than the countryside around it, though in some years the colour arrives in October.
Then the holiday season begins. According to the city’s official tourism site (opens in a new tab), the holiday markets, such as the one in Union Square, usually open in early November, and the Fifth Avenue shop windows are dressed from mid-month. This year has an extra date: on 26 November, Thanksgiving, the Macy’s parade marches for the 100th time.
The catch: New York’s big November days are also its busiest. Hotels fill up for the marathon on 1 November and over Thanksgiving week, and the Rockefeller Center tree isn’t lit until early December. The weeks in between are quieter.

Cape Town
Best for: early summer before the Christmas rush.
In November Cape Town moves from spring into summer. The average high is 24°C and there’s little rain, 25 mm in the month, and the sun doesn’t set until about half past seven. It’s the time to see the city, the Cape Peninsula and the Winelands around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek before the Christmas and New Year peak.
A week works. Ten days leaves room for a few days with nothing planned.
The catch: wind and water. The south-easter, the strong summer wind locals call the Cape Doctor, blows often from spring to late summer and can last for days. And the Atlantic beaches such as Clifton and Camps Bay are cold all year; the water in False Bay, at Muizenberg, is warmer.

Buenos Aires
Best for: swapping autumn for spring.
While the northern hemisphere heads into winter, Buenos Aires is in late spring, with an average high of 26°C and nights around 16°C. The city’s jacarandas, almost 19,000 of them, flower in the first weeks of November (opens in a new tab) and stay in bloom for about four weeks. The city government lists Avenida del Libertador, Córdoba, Corrientes and Cabildo among the avenues with the most.
With more than a week, add a ferry across the Río de la Plata to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay, or fly to Mendoza for the vineyards.
The catch: spring is also storm season, with 118 mm of rain in an average November. And unless you live in South America, it’s a long flight, so this is a trip where it pays to wait for a fare below the usual price.

Which ones are close depends on where you start. From Europe, Seville, Gran Canaria, Cyprus and Egypt are a few hours away. From North America, New York is; from Asia and Australia, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Tokyo; from South America, Buenos Aires.
A place can be at its best in November and still have an ordinary fare. We’d book when both line up: the month suits the place, and the fare is low for the route. How we chose these places
We started from the month, not from a list of famous places, and not from any one part of the world. A place made this guide if November gives it at least one clear advantage: the heat or the rain ends, a season or festival begins, or it comes just before the busiest weeks of the year. We left out places where November is merely pleasant, and places where it’s the start of the rainy season.
Frequently asked questions
Is November a cheap month to fly?
Not as a rule. No month is cheap on every route: a November fare can be low from one airport and high from another, and it depends on the dates. Compare a fare with the same route on nearby dates rather than trusting the month.
Is November still hurricane season in the Caribbean?
Officially, yes. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, according to the US National Hurricane Center, but most storms come between mid-August and mid-October. A November storm is possible, just less likely than one in September.
